ARCHAEOLOGICAL TOUR: San Galgano and Murlo

The tour begins with a visit to the Montesiepi Hill, a place chosen by San Galgano for his hermitage, where the 13th century Chapel of Montesiepi rises. Inside, a chapel frescoed by Ambrogio Lorenzetti in the Fourteenth Century with stories of San Galgano and the famous sword in the rock, which belonged to San Galgano. Then we will arrive at the great Cistercian abbey, built shortly after the death of the saint on the slopes of the hill. The church, without the roof, is a Latin cross, with three naves, and 71 meters long. Adjacent to the church are the other rooms of the abbey such as the cloister, the sacristy and the chapter house, which with the surrounding nature help to create a very suggestive environment. With us you will have immediately the ticket included in the price. The visit will continue with Murlo, a small village and ancient symbol of the Val di Merse but close to the Crete Senesi and the Val d’Orcia, ideal if you want to take a tour of southern Tuscany and the province of Siena. Supplement € 5 for the Archaeological Museum of Murlo set up inside the ancient Bishop’s Palace and the adjoining building of the charming village. At the end of the tour, along the typical hills of Chianti, we will arrive at a winery that produces wine, for a tasting of products and the possibility of buying and shipping.

We will take care of getting you from your accommodation and bring you back at the end with our comfortable minivan. Our drivers are very professional, they are not guides – a licensed person and a special extra price would be required by law – but they will certainly be able to recommend the best restaurants and souvenir shops.
